Gruen "Curvex Captain 498" men's Art Deco design wristwatch in 10K pink gold vermeil, circa 1944.

This is the first Curvex model which was named "Captain" by Gruen, and it uses a different case identification number (498) than the later version from 1948 (574). This early version has ribbed and hooded lugs and was produced during World War II... with an "S" stamped in the caseback to indicate the case is pink gold over a sterling silver base. It is in excellent condition with only a few specks of brassing to the lugs, and a small ding to the edge of the case. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a few specks of wear in the corners. Case measures 33mm long and 24mm wide. Older refinished inlaid enamel pink finish dial is superb, has black Roman numerals and brilliant silver inlaid markers. Has new glass crystal. Has original Gruen signed crown. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Gruen Curvex grade 440 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
