Very rare Lord Elgin “Uncataloged Wartime Model” men’s Machine Age design wristwatch in stainless steel, circa 1943.

This properly-signed, uncatalogued model has a stainless steel case made by Weber of Switzerland. It is one of only four that are known... one other in steel, and two others in 14K rose gold. No documentation has yet been found explaining exactly why Elgin sourced these cases from Weber during the war, but it may be that due to wartime production restrictions that cases produced domestically were not available at all, or in sufficient quantity, to meet Elgin's needs. This example is in excellent condition showing only very light wear and a few light marks. Case retains most of its alternating polished and brushed finishes. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 37mm long and 20mm wide. Black-finish dial is excellent, has gilt Roman numerals and markers. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 21-jewel Elgin grade 559 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
