Scarce Bulova “Round the World” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in two-tone white and yellow gold fill, circa 1931.

Bulova marketed this watch as a commemorative model named the "Round the World Watch" since it was the same model used by famous aviator Wiley Post on the first fixed-wing circumnavigation flight around the globe in 1931. Post and his navigator, Harold Gatty, flew a Lockheed Vega around the world in just 8 days, 15 hours, and 51 minutes from June 23 to July 1, 1931. Bulova's marketing department quickly jumped into action, and advertisements for the watch began to appear just three weeks later on July 23, 1931. The watch was priced at $37.50, and described as having a two-tone case of "white and sungold." Post later went on to complete the first solo flight around the world in 1933, but tragically died along with famous author and humorist Will Rogers in a crash on August 15, 1935 in Alaska. The watch features a white gold filled engraved case with four bars of yellow gold overlay. This example is in excellent condition with light brassing to the yellow gold overlay. Hinged caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 33mm long and 27mm wide. Original luminous dial is very good. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Bulova 10AN manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
